Hand picked, whole bunched pressed to tank. Cold settled for 1 day then racked to barrel. 100% barrel ferment. Mixture of puncheons (500 litre) and barriques (225 litre). 40% new oak. No stirring. Malolactic 75% complete. Maturation for 9 months in barrel. Aromas of overt corrella pear with hazelnut kernel. Lime zest and hints of nectarine. Lime zest carries through to the palate. Textural pithiness. Fresh and vibrant with great drive and tension offset but mouthfilling flavours of stonefruit.
Pooley Wines was established in 1985 when the late Denis and Margaret Pooley planted ten rows of Riesling and seven rows of Pinot Noir on their 16-hectare farm at Cooinda Vale in the Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania. Today, after more than 20 years of producing premium quality cool-climate wines, and having been awarded numerous trophies and medals at prestigious wine shows, the Pooley family in 2003 established their second main vineyard in the Coal River Valley at the beautiful Belmont Lodge. This is a heritage-listed old Georgian home on the outskirts of Richmond, making for the perfect centre for the third generation of premium Pooley wines to flourish, directed by brother and sister duo- Matthew Pooley as viticulturist and Anna Pooley as winemaker.
