Hand picked. Whole bunch pressed. Cold settled for 1 day then racked to barrel. Wild fermentation. Mixture of barriques (225 litre) and puncheons (500 litre) which 40% is new. Matured for 9 months in oak. No Malolactic. Minimal stirring. Subtle aromas of cardamom and pepperberry spice. Lemon/Lime zest and apple blossom. Palate is fine and restrained. Mineral chalkiness texture, mandarin, flint, lemon curd and pink grapefruit. Lacey acid. Bold but understated.
Pooley Wines was established in 1985 when the late Denis and Margaret Pooley planted ten rows of Riesling and seven rows of Pinot Noir on their 16-hectare farm at Cooinda Vale in the Coal River Valley in southern Tasmania. Today, after more than 20 years of producing premium quality cool-climate wines, and having been awarded numerous trophies and medals at prestigious wine shows, the Pooley family in 2003 established their second main vineyard in the Coal River Valley at the beautiful Belmont Lodge. This is a heritage-listed old Georgian home on the outskirts of Richmond, making for the perfect centre for the third generation of premium Pooley wines to flourish, directed by brother and sister duo- Matthew Pooley as viticulturist and Anna Pooley as winemaker.
