In 1825, Henry Hellyer was one of the first European explorers to set foot in the rugged interior of North West Tasmania as chief surveyor of the Van Dieman's Land Company, carving a dirt road into the rugged wilderness with the most basic of tools. Almost 200 years later, his road now guides the way to the Hellyers Road Distillery in the town of Burnie. The Distillery’s casks are imported American Oak barrels that were previously the domicile of American whisky, providing a tried and true means of maturation appreciated by whisky connoisseurs around the globe.
