Shene Estate was once the ostentatious residence of early colonialist Gamaliel Butler. The grand sandstone gothic revival stable includes a coach house, tack room and stable hand quarters and is one of Australia's earliest pastoral holdings. A short walk away you'll find the early 19th-century sandstone Georgian farmhouse which forms part of the magnificent country estate. The heritage-listed property has direct links with King George III and Governor Lachlan Macquarie and has been conserved for future generations. In the early days, the estate was an endless 22,000 acres, home to grazed sheep and cattle and wheat cultivation. The gothic revival stable and Shene's collection of convict-built structures were constructed in 1851. A run-down hayshed at Shene Estate was rebuilt to accommodate the distillery. From a historical context, the distillery's design and construction needed to sit in harmony with the adjacent gothic revival stables and Shene's collection of convict-built structures.
