Picked at a point where the primary fruits were bright and fresh. We harvested in small batches with a different fermentation management program for each. By no means was this wine treated any less than our most expensive wines. Whole bunch, destemmed, pressed early, pressed late… Pinot Noir is about layers and we assist this by variation in our processes. All ferments were gently pressed into old oak barrels. After malo-lactic fermentation the wine underwent minimal finning with a small amount of Sulphur added prior to bottling. With a harvest sourced from 3 Vineyards, this beautiful Pinot Noir exhibits pure fresh primary berry fruits with underlying tannins, acidity and oak. An excellent example of early release café style Pinot Noir. The aromaa are vibrant and fresh; reminscent of raspberries and mulberries. The palate details rich cherry and berry fruits with supportive subtle tannins.
Our family owned and operated wine business is situated just 20 minutes North of Hobart; the largest city in Tasmania. Located at 42 degrees south latitude this is genuine Cool climate Viticulture. Tasmania is rapidly gaining a reputation as Australia’s premier Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sparkling wine producing area. When we say family operated; that’s exactly what we mean with 3 generations of family members currently involved in the business. Planted on the historic Mt Nassau property which has been in the current owner’s family since 1913, Derwent Estate Wines was part of the diversification program. The property has seen a vast array of ventures over the last 100 years or so including Sheep, Cattle, Vegetable production, seed crops, poppies, quarrying and the production of lime. Viticulture is the next exciting phase in the history of Mt Nassau.
