Waterton Hall, a magnificent 1850's homestead is the home of Waterton Hall Wines. The Hall, historic outbuildings and surrounding vineyards enjoy sweeping views of the Tamar River in northern Tasmania. The pristine river banks and cool climate of 41 degrees south, allow an elegance and finesse from this hand-picked, single vineyard. The gently sloping vineyard facing the Tamar River is ideal for the development and growth of both red and white varietals. The slow release of cool climate flavours brings about a depth of texture and the ability to create complex, expressive, and refined wines. We have 2.5 hectares of Riesling, Shiraz and Viognier, and in addition we have planted (in late 2017) four new pinot noir clones and two new chardonnay clones which extends the vineyard to 10 hectares. Our healthy soil for our productive vines is predominently loam over clay soils and this is ideal for cool climate grape production and produce classic Tamar Valley wines. Natural mulched animal fertilizer is used to boost soil nutrition and structure. Integrated pest and disease management is practised to minimise inputs and maintain healthy vines. Grass sward is managed between the vines to maintain biodiversity and to minimise erosion.
